Why do I have to pay the invoice before I receive the Host family profile?

The Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act) is an Australian law which regulates the handling of personal information about individuals. This includes the collection, use, storage and disclosure of personal information. Meridian Homestay Services is committed to its legislative responsibility to protect the personal information of its clients, customers, service providers (Homestay Hosts) and staff. Therefore, we do not pass on the Host family profile to our client until payment has been made by the client and received by Meridian Homestay Services. Back

Other than the Host Family Profile, what other information can Meridian Homestay Services provide me before I arrive in Sydney?

How do I know if the Host family provides a safe environment for me?

Meridian Homestay Services works very closely with our Host families. Some host families have been working with Meridian Homestay Services for over 12 years. We make visits to the host family and ensure hosts who are housing students under the age of 18 years of age have a current Working with Children Screening Check. The safety of the student is of utmost importance to Meridian Homestay Services. Back

I am unhappy with my Homestay placement, what do I do now?

Firstly we encourage the student to talk to the Host family and discuss any issues or miscommunication you may be experiencing. If talking to the Host family is successful please contact Meridian Homestay Services immediately. We will then mediate between the Host family and student to try and resolve the issue. Back

If the issue or concern was not resolved can I move to another Host family?

Sometimes things go wrong, such as something as simple as a personality clash. If the situation cannot be resolved in an amicable manner Meridian Homestay Services will move the student, free of charge, to another Host family. This will only take place once the whole situation has been reviewed and in most cases the Host don’t require two weeks’ notice. Meridian Homestay Services always works to achieve a “win-win” solution for all parties involved. Back

How old can I be to stay in Homestay?

We have placed students as young as twelve, and up to the age of seventy years. Back

How many students am I to expect in my Homestay?

Meridian Homestay Services recommends no more than 3 overseas students residing in the same home. Exceptions are made when accommodating Study Tours as often requests are made by Agents to place up to 4 students in Twinshare rooms. In most cases there are only 1 to 2 students in the Homestay. Back

Am I eligible for concession travel tickets on public transport?

International students are generally not eligible for discounted or concession tickets on Sydney public transport. Some exceptions are allowed if travelling longer distances from outer zones. Back


 My Host family is very kind of me even if I cannot speak English well. So I had a good time while I stayed as a Homestay. I was a very precious experience!! I will never forget it forever.
